City of HMB | Main Street Bridge Repair Project Begins May 18

Preserving a Historic Landmark Through Important Bridge Improvements

The City’s Public Works Department will begin repairs to the historic Main Street Bridge on May 18 to address deteriorating masonry along the structure.

Built in 1900, the Main Street Bridge was one of the world’s earliest steel-reinforced concrete bridges. Due to its historic significance, the project required extensive planning and coordination before work could begin.

What to Expect

  • During the first two weeks of construction, crews will focus on repairs along the Main Street sides of the bridge. Drivers should expect traffic delays and single-lane closures between approximately 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Traffic control measures will be in place to maintain a safe work area for construction crews.
  • Residents and visitors are encouraged to use alternate routes when possible during work hours.
  • The following two weeks of the project will focus on walkway repairs, and pedestrian detours will be in place during that phase of construction.

The City appreciates the community’s patience and understanding as these important repairs are completed to help preserve one of Half Moon Bay’s historic landmarks.
